Guru Deshpande initiates anthology alongside four different movie producers

Movie producer Guru Deshpande is amped up for Pentagon, which is another collection of Kannada films that he leads. The movie producer says that this is an endeavor to show meaningful content-oriented film to audiences. “This idea germinated around six months ago. During the lockdown, people had more access to world cinema and quality content that they could view from their living rooms. Earlier, world cinema was a niche subject. Now, people expect content to be at par, if not better,” he explains.

Guru adds that this isn’t the first time when that he had a thought this way. “Back in 2007, Jayathirtha and I had planned one such project, but it didn’t take off. This time, I’ve roped in four others, each of who has a certain niche and is different in their approach,” he says, remarking on the choice of Akash Srivatsa, Raghu Shivamogga, Chandra Mohan and newbie Kiran Kumar.

“While Akash and Raghu have made critically-acclaimed content rich cinema, Chandra Mohan has his stronghold in comedy. Kiran is from the directorial team of Gentleman, which had received a lot of favourable reviews. As for me, I’ve mostly made commercial entertainers. While we will have a similar thread in the stories, each will showcase our specialties,” he explains.

The team intends to uncover the cast shortly. “We want to curate the announcements too, in order to ensure there is enough curiosity to watch something that will be different and high on content like this,” he closes down.
