A secret that Marin natives would like to keep is the sleepy neighborhood of Pacheco Valle in-between San Rafael and Novato.
Nestled into the hillside, these quaint wooden homes are a hidden gem just off the highway (and far south enough to miss the Petaluma and Novato traffic).
When I first happened upon these little homes I pulled over and took a picture as I couldn’t believe how cute the homes were. 5 years later and I have loved seeing all the deer and the resident gaggle of fearless turkeys who strut around like they own the place.
For mountain bikers there’s a great path behind us, and for hikers miles of stunning trails with views of the sea from 3 sides. (https://www.parks.marincounty.org/parkspreserves/preserves/pacheco-valle)
The commute to San Francisco is easy – a bus goes directly to the financial district from the entrance and the SMART train takes you right to the ferry. The drive is 30 mins into the city and most of the traffic is missed.
There are occasionally houses for sale in the area – and we snapped up a 3 bedder for under $800k which is unheard of in Marin.
Michael Jackson of Coldwell Banker says: “This neighborhood is a true gem: both San Rafael and Novato are right there, the schools are good and it’s a safe and peaceful environment.
We have a couple of properties available currently but they will be snapped up soon.” ( https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/ca/novato/110-redhawk-rd/pid_42402191/)
Designed with architectural panache – these homes offer large windows and views out to the sea. Long hiking trails, leafy dog walks and swimming pools and playgrounds for the kids add to the family vibe. Halloween trick or treating is round the corner.
For affordable living close to the city with the feel of small-town and coastal living, this little neighborhood won’t stay secret long.
