Infinity Smiles Releases Medicare Dental Checklist for NY Seniors Ahead of Dec. 7 Deadline

With Medicare open enrollment closing soon, Infinity Smiles urges older New York residents to look closely at dental benefits before choosing a plan.

Queens, New York, United States, 30th Oct 2026 — Many older adults find out only after losing a tooth that Original Medicare does not pay for most dental care, including dentures and dental implants. With Medicare open enrollment ending on December 7, Infinity Smiles, a dental practice in Flushing, is encouraging seniors and their families to check a plan’s dental benefits before they sign up for the year ahead.

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) generally does not cover routine dental services such as cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures or implants. Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits, but coverage varies widely from plan to plan, and many set annual dollar limits, waiting periods or restrictions on major procedures.

For seniors who are missing teeth or wearing dentures that no longer fit well, those details can mean the difference between getting treatment next year and putting it off.

“Every year we meet patients who assumed Medicare would help with dentures or implants and only learned otherwise when they needed treatment,” said Dr. Solomon Borukhov of Infinity Smiles. “Open enrollment is the main time of year seniors can change course. A few minutes spent reading the dental section of a plan can save a lot of stress and expense later.”

Dr. Solomon Borukhov recommends that seniors and the family members helping them ask these questions before choosing a plan:

  1. Does the plan include dental coverage at all? Original Medicare generally does not, so dental benefits usually come through a Medicare Advantage plan or a separate dental policy.
  2. What is the annual maximum? Many plans cap what they will pay each year, and the cap can be far below the cost of dentures or implants.
  3. Are dentures, implants and extractions covered, and at what percentage? Some plans cover only preventive care such as exams and cleanings.
  4. Are there waiting periods? Some plans require months of enrollment before covering major work.
  5. Is your current dentist in network? Out-of-network care can cost much more or not be covered.

“Missing teeth affect more than appearance,” Dr. Solomon Borukhov added. “They can make it harder to chew healthy foods and speak comfortably, and they can affect confidence. The good news is that seniors have more options today than many realize.”

Options for replacing missing teeth now range from traditional full and partial dentures to mini dental implants, which can help stabilize loose dentures, and full-arch treatments such as All-on-X implants. The right choice depends on a patient’s oral health, bone support, budget and goals, which is why Dr. Solomon Borukhov encourages seniors to have an exam and a treatment discussion before deciding what coverage they need.

Before choosing a plan or booking a visit, patients should also check that their plan works at the practice. Infinity Smiles is in network with many PPO dental plans but does not currently accept HMO dental plans. Call the office at 929-346-4974 to ask whether your plan is accepted, or check the practice’s insurance page.

“Bring your plan’s benefit summary with you to your appointment,” Dr. Solomon Borukhov said. “We can explain what a treatment would involve and what it would cost, so you can compare that with what your plan says it will pay. If anything in the plan is unclear, your insurer or a Medicare counselor can answer it.”

Seniors can review and compare plans at Medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. Free and objective counseling is also available through the New York State Office for the Aging’s Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP). Call 1-800-701-0501 and give your county to be connected to a local counselor.

Medicare open enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, 2026.
